Fifth Annual International NSVI Vasectomy Ski Seminar
January 21-25, 2019; Frisco, Colorado

The Fifth Annual International NSVI Vasectomy Ski Seminar drew a huge crowd of 12 vasectomist participants from 5 countries, and 3 Members of the World Vasectomy Day staff. All doubled as faculty and audience, exchanging data and ideas on a wide range of topics pertaining to the social and technical aspects of vasectomy. While these exchanges were scattered throughout each day on ski lifts, hiking trails, and Frisco's delightful Main Street, the formal didactic sessions took place on select evenings, usually following fine food and wine consumed at the cozy A8 condo or one of Frisco's many pubs and restaurants. This year was a very family-oriented meeting. We had 4 boys ages 11, 9, 7, and 5; 1 girl age 16 months; and one miniature poodle age 18 months.

My biggest disappointment was not getting a shot of the whole group when all were in attendance, after late arrivers and before early departers. But here are some of us.
Standing: Robert Kulik (Warsaw, Poland), Doug Stein (Tampa), Alison Hoover (WVD) with partner Peter, Karl Shelly (Goshen, IN)
Seated on sofa: Sarah Demediuk (Melbourne, Vistoria), John Curington (Tampa), Henry Demediuk (10), Doron Boone (Bristol, UK), Melanie Savard-Cote (St-Joseph-du-Lac, QC), Nick Demediuk, Jonathan Stack (World Vasectomy Day, NYC), Jim Haller (Minneapolis, MN).

Some repeats above with the addition of Maryann Stein (Tampa) and Maeve and Sarah Miller (Boston).

Here are the TOPICS that were covered in depth (see Program):
Evaluation of the vasectomy candidate: age, childless men, prior surgery, hydroceles, hernias, medications
Anesthesia techniques
Vasectomy techniques
Post-vasectomy syncope
Post-vasectomy semen analysis
Complications: hematomas, infections, PVPS, and management of failure
Office-based vasectomy reversal ... and many more

1. There was a special evening of German beer and sausages at Ein Prosit, and
2. The International Snow Sculpture Championships in Breckenridge.

Now some additional photos:

Lest the reader get the impression that NSVI Vasectomy Ski Seminars are all recreation, food, and wine, let's start with the academic sessions.

Nick led discussions of patient selection and post-vasectomy instructions including management of vagal responses.

Jonathan Stack and Alison Hoover of World Vasectomy Day presented the accomplishments and goals of WVD.

John Curington led the discussion of complications. Jonathan also talked about worldwide promotion of vasectomy.

Robert Kulik presented high-tech PVSA. Between presentations was time to discuss whether the speakers really knew what they were talking about.

Evening presentations all followed feasts on the grandest scale. This was Sally's night.

Melanie's night was equally impressive, as she had a strong team of helpers.

With Knightley patrolling for dropped morsels, everyone digs in to food more delicious (and much less expensive) than in any restaurant ...

... although the Zola boys aren't so sure about that green stuff. We had so few photos of Justin Low, that finally I gave him no choice.

Breakout sessions were often academic ... ... but not always.

It was called a Ski Seminar ...  ... but the hiking was irresistable and slope photos were rarely taken.

No, Doron and John did not make that Snow Sculpture.  Your hosts: Doug, Maryann and Knightley Stein
